Maureen
Carven is an experienced artist and art educator who has studied, and
worked with artists in Europe, Asia
and the southwestern US. Foremost
a potter, her work covers a broad range of style and technique. Her
studio/gallery represents the fulfillment of a lifelong dream for
Maureen. She majored in Fine Arts in college, taught art and maintained
studios in several countries where she and her husband lived.
In addition to her role as artist/director of the Artisans’
Studio/Gallery, she also teaches and is the Chair of the Fine Arts
department at a private school in the Boston area.
Recently,
Maureen spent three summers studying pottery and painting in northern
Italy where she became interested in Majolica, an Italian style of hand
painted ceramics. She has
combined the classic Italian method and her whimsical motifs to create a
unique style. Besides
teaching this type of ceramic decoration, she also offers customized
Majolica plates to interested buyers. After collaborating with the
customer, Maureen designs and hand paints the piece to her client’s
delight and satisfaction.
